Meditation works the way your mind works

Meditation works the way your mind works because meditation is rooted in the functioning of the mind.

There are many misconceptions about meditation and, by extension, mindfulness. Many people believe that you must have some sort of mystical religious belief for meditation to work for them.

Nothing could be further from the truth.

You already know how to meditate

When you meditate, you draw on processes already going on in your mind. You are not forcing something new on it. You’re not trying to get it to do something it doesn’t normally do. Worse, you’re not trying to get it to do something it doesn’t want to do.

Instead, it already behaves in a certain way. It’s already functioning in a certain way. When you practice meditation and mindfulness, you align your awareness with how your mind is already functioning. In this way, your mind is no longer working against you but for you.

But we train our minds to work against us

Believe it or not, when you think about traumatic experiences in the past or worry about things that might go wrong in the future, you are making your mind work against you. The great tragedy of this is that you are doing it to yourself.

No one is holding a gun to your head and demanding that you remain a slave to the traumatic experiences of your past. No one is slapping you and forcing you to give in to your fears. No one is forcing you to be unhappy because of things that may happen in the future.

You are doing all of this to yourself, and what makes this a tragedy is that your mind is so powerful, so beautiful, and so amazing, but you are setting it up to make you miserable.

You have chosen to have your mind work against you, so you feel stuck in your life.

Anything anyone else can do, you can do

Did you know that you can do anything that anyone else could do? Think of the most successful person you know. Did you know that you can do what they do? If you can think of a thousand reasons why you can’t do what they do or achieve what they have achieved, that’s your mind working.

It doesn’t have to work that way, but unfortunately, you have trained it to function that way.

Through meditation, you can understand how your mind works and then choose the outcome of your thoughts.

What you focus on grows. The more you focus on your problems, the more they grow. The more you focus on your insecurities, the weaker you feel. The more you focus on your physical and emotional weaknesses, the less attractive you become and the more doomed you feel.

Stop doing this. It doesn’t have to be this way.

Brutal truth: you choose your reality with your thoughts

Your reality is a choice. When you understand how your mind is already functioning in the here and now, you can make the necessary changes to take your life to the next level.

If you want to know how meditation works and how to change your thinking with simple steps, . It will probably be one of the best decisions you ever make.

People who have just discovered meditation for themselves feel like they have just been released from a prison in their own heads. It’s like night and day. As you enjoy the peace and serenity that meditation can bring to your life, you begin to appreciate the meditation benefits and think about why you wasted all those years thinking the way you did.

Make no mistake, you are always in control. I know that’s unpleasant because most people would rather blame others than take responsibility for the outcomes of their own actions.

You’d rather think your life is set in stone by the past. Meditation is the key if you really want to live a life full of power, meaning, and purpose.

You can learn how to meditate very quickly

Another common misconception is that it can take years for you to learn how to meditate effectively. That you need to spend hours each day in a quietened room chanting to get your mind in the right state for effective meditation.

Not at all. In fact, if you combine your meditating time with , you can put your mind quickly into the most receptive state for meditation and get more out of it.

Final thoughts

Meditation is a totally natural process because meditation works the way your mind works.

When you meditate, you access natural brainwave states that you enter and exit all the time without realising it.  And while in that state, you will be relaxed, calm and experience less stress.  And the feelings stay with you and can be cumulative.
